Job Title: General Assistant
Reports to: Owners / manager
Duties and responsibilities
Food preparation and basic cooking
Serving of meals ensuring portion control and consistent food presentation
Cleaning of kitchen, its surrounds and equipment
General kitchen duties (filling dishwasher, washing up etc)
Preparation of café tables, cleaning tables, checking serviettes, salt & pepper etc
Sweeping and mopping the kitchen and café as required
Ensuring food hygiene and health and safety regulations are adhered to at all times
Clean and check toilets
Carry out any other reasonable duties within the overall function of the job.
Hours: The hours will be flexible as occasioned by the job but will typically be 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 10am-3pm with extra hours at busy times. We may consider a job-share so if you are only able to do certain days then please make this clear in your application.
Pay: £7.20 p/h
Dates: Start date is as soon as possible. Contract is initially fixed until the end of September with potential to be extended into October. Our season ends on 30 October 2016.

About Claythorpe: Claythorpe Watermill & Wildfowl Gardens is a popular, family-run visitor attraction about 3 miles from Alford. Under new ownership since 2013, it has a wildfowl garden, small shop and busy café. It’s important to us that visitors receive a warm welcome and enjoy every part of their visit, whether they’ve come for a day out or are one of our regular visitors returning for a cream tea or lunch in our café. Following a major increase in visitor numbers, we are looking for a general assistant to help us welcome guests, take admission fees and food orders at the till, help with food preparation, basic cooking, serving food and cleaning. Start date is as soon as possible until the end of September (and possibly into October). Our season ends on 30 October 2016.
Required skills
Experience of working in a kitchen and preferably food preparation experience
Good customer service skills with a friendly manner
Good attention to detail
Ability to use your own initiative
An unflappable nature and methodical approach that allows you to stay calm at busy times.
A flexible approach
Ability to carry out manual handling duties (unpacking stock deliveries etc)
Desirable skills (though we are happy to train the right person)
Operating a till
Food Hygiene Training
- Basic baking skills
