Job Title: Catering and customer service supervisor
Reports to: Owner / managers
Pay: £9.25 p/h
Job Location: Claythorpe Watermill & Wildfowl Gardens, Aby, Nr Alford, LN13 0DU

Contract: Fixed term contract from March 7th to October 29th 2018
Hours: Saturday to Wednesday
March (from 7th) 1000 – 1630
April – September 1000 – 1730
October (until 29th) 1000 – 1630
These are the core hours. We also have an exciting events programme for 2018 so there’ll be plenty of opportunities for additional hours.
About the role
Following a further increase in visitor numbers, we are looking for an enthusiastic, capable and flexible supervisor to join our small, friendly team. Working between the kitchen and the customer areas, you’ll play a lead role making visitors welcome and making sure that they receive great service, great food and excellent coffee. This will suit someone who’s comfortable running a kitchen but also enjoys meeting and serving customers. You’ll make sure that everything runs like clockwork at the busiest times, and that all the other jobs get done when it’s quieter.
About Claythorpe
Claythorpe Watermill & Wildfowl Gardens is a popular, family-run visitor attraction about 5 miles from Alford and 9 miles from Louth. It has a wildfowl garden, animals, small shop and a busy café with a reputation for great food. It’s important to us that visitors receive a warm welcome and enjoy every part of their visit, whether they’ve come for a day out or are one of our regular visitors returning for a cream tea or lunch in our café. Like our visitors, many staff members return year after year.
About our café
The cafe at Claythorpe serves good, fresh food. Sandwiches are made to order, cakes are homemade and whilst our menu is full of firm favourites we’re always keen to try new dishes or specials.
Duties and responsibilities
Basic cooking, food preparation and service, ensuring portion control and consistent food presentation. If you’re a keen cook you’ll also have the opportunity to bring your ideas to the menu.
Welcoming customers, operating the till and taking payment by cash and card at the admissions desk. Taking food and drink orders and dealing with enquiries.
Stock ordering
Stock control
Supervising other members of staff to ensure the highest standards of customer service and quality of work in the kitchen
Baking cakes – we’ve got a good stash of fool-proof recipes, but if you’re a keen baker, we’d love to put your skills on show!
General kitchen duties (filling dishwasher, washing up etc)
Preparation of café tables and customer areas
End of day closedown
Carry out any other reasonable duties within the overall function of the job.
Conforming at all times with health, hygiene and allergen regulations
Cleaning, sweeping and mopping the kitchen, café and toilets as required
Cleaning of kitchen, its surrounds and equipment
Required skills
Relevant catering experience
Good customer service skills with a friendly manner
Good attention to detail
Ability to use your own initiative
An unflappable nature and methodical approach that allows you to stay calm at busy times.
Ability to carry out manual handling duties (unpacking stock deliveries etc)
Supervisory experience is desirable however we would consider someone who feels they’re ready to make that move.
Ideally you will have some or all of the following qualifications or a willingness to obtain them – we can provide training for the right person
Level 3 Food Hygiene
FSA Allergen Training
First Aid qualification
Personal Licence Holder
