Tranquil and lovely, Claythorpe Watermill is a popular, family run cafe at our landmark 18th century mill. Visitors come back time and again to enjoy breakfast, lunch, coffee and cakes. We have a full range of sandwich plates, great burgers, full breakfast, classic ploughman’s, quiches and specials – or just pop in for cake or a glass of wine.The café is open from 10am until 4pm, making it popular with walkers and cyclists. If you’re with a group of more than eight people, please check in advance so we can be ready to accommodate you.Sit by the river, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the countryside.

The Claythorpe Café

Our café is open to all – entry to the animal areas is by ticket.
We serve freshly made sandwiches, great burgers, homemade quiche, coffee, drinks and snacks. And as for our cakes – we think they’re awesome!We have two dining rooms – the first sits above the mill race, with the Victorian turbine beneath your feet. And inside the main mill building, the dominant feature of the room is the huge former mill workings, where you can see the gears and millstones that turned for decades while Claythorpe was a working watermill.There's plenty of seating around the grounds if you want to eat outside by the river, or have a quiet coffee by the mill pond.We serve breakfast 10-11.30, lunch 11.30-3 and coffee and cake all day until we close.

Meet our animals

*UPDATE - SPRING 2023*. Our bird garden is not currently open to the public while we restore order following the national avian flu lockdown. Back soon! The goat and rabbit enclosures and play area are open as normal.Claythorpe Watermill is a gorgeous spot in the lovely Lincolnshire countryside. We’re home to an adorable collection of birds and animals, from budgies and runner ducks, to guinea pigs, giant rabbits and pygmy goats.Some of our animals have lived at Claythorpe for many years, and we ask all our visitors to respect their home. They’re all used to human company, but they do like an easy life, and are happiest with a little peace and quiet. So when you pass through the gate into the wildfowl garden, take your time, have a seat and enjoy the company of the birds – we hope you’ll find it as tranquil and relaxing as they do.Admission to the animal areas and the play area is by ticket. There are strictly no dogs allowed in the animals areas.
