Covid information

We’re happy to say that we’re certified ‘Good to Go’ by Visit England, which means that we’ve taken the required action to welcome you in line with Government and Public Health England guidelines.

So that you know what to expect when you arrive and during your visit, we hope we can answer all your questions here.

Do we need to book?

It’s not currently necessary to book, either to visit the grounds or the cafe, as we’re past the busy summer period and we have plenty of socially distanced capacity.

The Rule of 6

In line with the new law, we can’t accommodate groups of more than 6 people. We know this is difficult for everyone, but it’s a legal requirement – please don’t place our staff in the difficult position of having to refuse service to any group breaking the law.

What do we do when we arrive?

When you arrive at Claythorpe, please park in the car park across the road from the mill. The admission desk is inside the main mill. Please send just one member of your group, wearing a face covering in to buy tickets if you’re visiting the grounds, or to collect a menu if you’re just visiting the cafe. There’s a one-way system in place through the mill, so please enter through the front door and exit through the blue door in the mill room.

Do we need to wear a mask?

We ask that only one person from each group comes to the admission desk to order food and drink or buy admission tickets to the grounds. It is now mandatory for this person to wear a face covering while inside the mill. Please be considerate to our team members, by maintaining social distance at the till and do please remember that Claythorpe is our family home as well as a lovely place to visit.

There’s no requirement to wear a mask in any of the outdoor areas, or while you’re sitting to eat or drink.

Contact tracing

When you arrive at the admission desk, we need to record your name (just the lead person in the group), your arrival time, the number of people in your group and your phone number. Again, this is a legal requirement.

Sitting to eat in the cafe

Tables are cleaned and sanitised with antiviral spray between guests. You can help with this by not sitting at a cafe table unless you’re planning to eat or drink, and by not moving to another table once you’ve sat down.

Around the grounds

Please follow two-metre social distancing from other groups and make use of the supplied hand-washing facilities. If you use the loo, please follow the instructions on the poster about leaving the door open and not being a scumbag.

There are a few gates around the grounds that need to be opened by hand – we provide a plastic glove to wear when you’re opening the gate handles that will have been touched by other people (we know it’s weird, but we’re doing our best!)

In the play area

If you’re visiting the play area, please follow the notices regarding the number of children using the play equipment and the need to follow good hand hygiene. We recommend bringing a small hand sanitiser with you as an added precaution.
